Hello my name is Tempus thanks for stopping by...
I am a software developer with a very wide range of experience
in both web based technology and client server.
I work for a very large automotive supplier where I lead
a team of developers that create and support all of the shopfloor applications.
The technology that we currently use is JAVA and C++.
Over the years I have become more and more dissatisfied
with the organized church. I have always felt that the typical organized
religion tended to talk down to the average church goers. To assume
that there was only one way of doing things in the religious arena totally
disregarded the entire natural world. It didn’t make sense.
For many years I considered myself a “universalist” whatever that meant.
I just couldn’t find it in me to believe that God could be that short
sited as to provide only one “Perfect” Religion.
I had spent time as I was growing up in a number of churches including
Baptist, Lutheran and Christian Reformed. I had never been satisfied
with any of them. I found my only satisfaction in roaming the woodlands
of my native Michigan. The older I got the more time I spent in the
woods. It helped that I had a father who did not like television and
insisted that we be outdoors as long as the light allowed. He worked
for a shoe company as a sewing machine repair man and made very little.
He subsidized our pantry by raising vegetables, pigs, chickens, rabbits
and hunting. As children we were expected to help out in all of the
different areas of the “homestead”. More and more I found myself drawn
to the hunting aspect and spent many hours with my 4:10 shotgun looking
for squirrels and rabbits to bring home for dinner.
As I got older I started to get into more of the “Woodsman” type of
pursuits like trapping and fishing. From the time I turned 15 to the
time I as 18 I ran traplines through out the area. I became adept at
catching mink and muskrats, which at the time sold for a considerable
sum. These were the days before PETA came on the scene and killed the
fur market. Over time I found myself spending my entire day away from
home wandering the pine forests and swamps looking for good places to
hunt, trap or fish. Soon I began to realize that I actually enjoyed
being in the forest itself more than the actual hunting and trapping
aspect.
The day after high school graduation I got on a bus and headed to FT
McClellan AL to boot camp for the US army. While in the service I learned
how to be a Military Policeman and jump out of perfectly good airplanes.
Along the way I was able to travel to many foreign countries and learn
about their cultures. I spent time in Egypt, Honduras and Korea primarily
with short stops in Japan and Germany as well. What I learned fascinated
me. From the Muslim aspect of Egypt to the Ancestor Worship of the ancient
Koreans, it all seemed so different and intriguing.
I spent five years roaming the globe for the Army and all I got out
of it was a wife from Korea and an inability to donate blood due to
the large number of shots that I received as part of my travel. Once
I settled down in the use my life went pretty much back to normal. I
worked hard balancing my home life with work and college as I tried
to learn enough to get a good job.
We had the typical cross cultural challenges in our marriage and spent
a considerable amount of time working through those things. Eventually
I finished college and got a decent job that allowed us to have kids.
So ten years after we were married we finally had a child. Six years
after that our second was born. During these 16 years I continued to
attend the Christian Reformed church with my wife and family and continuously
struggled with the concepts and rules being presented. They still didn’t
make sense.
It wasn’t until my last child was born that I finally started looking
into what other paths were out there. I started out looking at Trinitarian
Wicca as it seemed on the surface to be closely aligned with my path
up to that time. While doing that I started reading up on Gnosticism
and Shamanism and Druidism. At first I did not find anything that stood
out for me so I kept reading.
Eventually I had ruled out all of the above until I bought a book by
Skip Ellison on Solitary Druidism. I gave that a read and wow, everything
clicked for me. No longer did I need to worry about going to hell for
my “bad” thoughts. It really opened my eyes. Since then I have spent
many hours reading and studying. I have read many online documents as
well as a few other books and since I started practicing I feel that
my life has more meaning than ever before. I consider myself a solitaire
but at this time I don’t feel the need to be more than that. I have
joined some online courses and really hope to learn much much more.
I want to know that I have done my best to learn about my chosen path
and done my best. Along the way I really hope to be able to learn more
about my home area, the trees and animals and eventually to pass those
thing on to my kids.
